To explore the ecological footprint of a modern high-school student.
The pencil case is invariably required by every student throughout their academic careers.
Pencil cases are manufactured from a variety of plastics or synthetic materials. Wastage of resources occurs in two major ways, through the selection of unsuitable, or unenduring materials.
Suitable pencil cases must be able to house all of the stationery needs of the student. In senior or high school examinations, examination regulations often stipulate that pencil cases must be transparent. The material of the pencil case must be able to endure, for at least a few years, the sharp protrusions of pencils, pens, scissors, compasses and protractors. If the material's structure is easily compromised by these standard stationery items, the pencil case is likely to be quickly damaged and in need of replacement.
Knowing of these factors beforehand will minimise the consumption of unnecessary raw materials on the small scale.
