To explore the ecological footprint of a modern high-school student.
As a team, we call ourselves EarthRise and we are very proud of ourselves as a group. We complemented the abilities and talents of each other. Splitting the duties according to each member's interests and capabilities, we enabled the creation and development of this site to go ahead as smoothly as possibly. Since we had to work within the timeframe of our exams, strong leadership and effective team management greatly improved our efficiency as a team.
Her interest in web development and design led her to coordinate the team EarthRise for this DET website competition. Her main duties were to create the site design. While her main tool was Photoshop, she also had to work closely with Ben (the coder) to coordinate the effective transfer of the design from a Photoshop document to HTML. In addition, she worked with the rest of the team to determine the direction the site content would take, coming up eventually with the topic area of the ecological footprint of a student.
Ben's experience in coding HTML and programming various CMS (content management system) platforms placed him at an excellent advantage as the HTML coder of the team. Working with Pristine, he transferred the design from a Photoshop document to HTML. He was also responsible for debugging the HTML and ensuring cross-browser compatibility (specifically, between Firefox and Internet Explorer 6).
Except for the images used for the design, all photos featured on the site are original. Namely, they are the work of Norman, a photographer with a keen eye for the unique and quirky. He was responsible for taking and collating the photographs for use on the website. We have included a photo in each page , which greatly enhances the content and appeals visually to the viewer.
Vineet was responsible for writing the site content. His work involved researching how a student's use of paper and plastics affected the environment and coming up with alternatives on how to alleviate the problems presented. As well, he coordinated his efforts with our overseeing teacher, Mr Woo, to handle the paperwork and administrative aspects of the site development so that everyone else could focus on their duties.
Mentored by our teacher, Mr Woo, we received great help in developing ideas and working within the given boundaries of the rules set by the DET website competition. We would like to thank Mr Woo for his time and effort in helping us coordinate this project!
