What is the Underground Union?

The Underground Union, or UU, is a coalition of underground cities and surviving citizens. The UU is a unique political, economical and environmental community which was formed in 2038.

The aims of the UU s to provide a planet-wide system of government to help combat the follies previously caused by human kind, the UU has been put in place to ensure global peace and sustainable living.

Since the destruction of the first human empire, the population of the planet has greatly decreased. The population is spread over 17 cities. Each city elects a representative to the Union, however all cities are autonomous. Together the representatives form a parliament to advise and unify the underworld.

Conditions on the surface of the planet started to significantly deteriorate in 2020 but the damage was too severe to be contained and the Earth was completely uninhabitable by 2047. Foresighted citizens in Australia devised the concept of underground cities and started to construct tunnels and caves in the Oxley area and prevailed upon members of other continents to develop similar communities. By 2038, humankind was forced into these underground areas to survive.
