Travel & Tourism

Travel has changed dramatically since humans were forced underground. The air is no longer safe for human exposure, therefore drastic changes were needed. Flight is still possible but requires more technology than previous methods. An airlock is needed to prevent the toxic gases within the atmosphere reaching the underground communities. All planes pass through two large air tight doors just after the wheels leave the ground and again just before touching down at its destination. There are also shuttles around the communities. The shuttles are powered by liquid hydrogen. They can carry up to ten people and travel at a fast yet still safe speed.

The tourism industry has also undergone many changes. With a lack of beautiful sandy beaches, scenic mountain ranges, vast gorges, beautiful winding rivers and a variety of famous landmarks people are encouraged to travel for other reasons. These include sampling other cultures, underground rivers, lakes and speleology and a variety of other destinations which would previously not have been considered. For those still not prepared to give up on the idea of a traditional holiday to an island paradise or camping at the base of a sublime mountain range we have developed virtual holiday destinations. These destinations incorporate the traditional holiday elements from pseudo-sunlight, replicated landmarks and preserved experiences of now extinct cultures.

The UU has also developed youth exchange programs tailored to the altered needs of our new world. Students are still learning about and experiencing other cultures but it has become much more expensive. After much trial and error we have developed affordable programs which make the exchange available to more students. There are programs for primary, secondary and tertiary students. Through these programs the UU aims to maintain a bright future for the human race.
